TDC team takes you on an immersive journey through David Hockney’s 60 years of art
The TDC team recently ventured to King's Cross to experience David Hockney's latest exhibition, and we were not disappointed! We were treated to an immersive experience that allowed us to see the world through Hockney's eyes.
David Hockney, the legendary artist known for his vibrant use of colour and innovative approach to art, has a new exhibition that promises to be a game-changer. Titled “BIGGER & CLOSER (not smaller & further away),” the exhibition is a cycle of six themed chapters that offer a rare insight into Hockney’s creative process. The exhibition includes iconic pieces, rarely seen works, and new pieces that have never been exhibited before.
Hockney’s voice is in our ears as we watch him experimenting with perspective, using photography to “draw with the camera,” capturing the passing of time in polaroids, and recording the joy of spring on his iPad. Along with a specially commissioned score by Nico Muhly, we were taken on a journey through 60 years of Hockney’s work, from Los Angeles to Yorkshire and up to the present day in Normandy.
The exhibition also features animated re-creations of Hockney’s opera designs, offering visitors a glimpse into his world of theatre. We join him on his audio-visual work, The Wagner Drive, as we roar up into the Santa Monica mountains.
The exhibition is an unprecedented opportunity to be in the presence of one of the great popular geniuses of our time. Hockney is an artist who has always pushed the boundaries of what is possible, and this exhibition is no exception. It invites us to look more closely, truly and joyously, at the world around us and to experience it through the eyes of one of the most iconic artists of our time.
The exhibition is hosted at Lightroom’s new premises in King’s Cross, a four-storey space that is equipped with the latest digital projection and audio technology. This makes it the perfect venue to showcase Hockney’s lifelong fascination with the possibilities of new media.
